Privacy notice

Last updated

This notice explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and your rights under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). We keep it short and plain because privacy shouldn't need a lawyer to read.

Who we are

Digital Blast Media (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2016/387590/07) is a web, software and automation studio based in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information collected through this website.

When we build or run a system for a client, that client is the responsible party for the personal information inside it and we act as their operator, under a written agreement as POPIA requires.

What we collect

This website only collects what you choose to send us:

  • through our contact form: your name, your email address and your message;
  • through our project poll: your answers to its two questions. If you ask for a free plan, also your first name, email address, company (optional) and what you tell us about your project.

Poll answers sent without contact details aren't linked to you. We don't run advertising trackers.

Why we collect it

We use what you send us to read your enquiry or plan request and reply to it. That's the lawful basis under POPIA — processing necessary to respond to a request you initiated. We also look at poll answers together to understand what our visitors want to build.

Marketing emails

We only send you marketing emails if you tick the opt-in box on the project poll. It's never ticked for you, and you get your plan either way. We record when you ticked it. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to stop at any time.

Who processes it

To run the contact form and host the site, we rely on a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Cloudflare — hosts the website and provides the Turnstile check that screens out spam and bots.
  • Resend — delivers your enquiries and plan requests to our inbox, sends our replies and, if you opted in, keeps our mailing list.

These providers process your information only to provide their service to us. We never sell your personal information to anyone.

Both are international providers, so your information may be stored or processed outside South Africa. POPIA (section 72) allows this where the provider is bound to protect it to a standard comparable with POPIA, and that's the basis on which we use them.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry and plan-request emails for as long as needed to deal with your request and any follow-up, then delete them. If we don't end up working together, you can ask us to delete them sooner. If you opted in to marketing emails, we keep your name and email address on our mailing list until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • object to how we're using it;
  • complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we've mishandled your information.

Our Information Officer

Our Information Officer is Revendran Pillay, registered with the Information Regulator of South Africa (reference 2026-061664). They are responsible for how we handle personal information and for answering requests about it.

To exercise any of these rights, or to ask a question about this notice, email our Information Officer at sales [at] digitalblastmedia dot co dot za or use our contact page. We'll respond within one business day.
